Free dog field session
Each booking of a 7 day or more stay will receive a free one hour session on our dog field, including the use of fun agility equipment, during their stay.
Guests will also receive a discount if they wish to book additional sessions. Our dog field is on site so you need only walk your dogs less than 100 feet from the Lodge to reach it. It is fully enclosed, with 6ft wooden close board and panel fencing. Being mainly laid to artificial grass dogs tend to stay clean and dry when using it, which is a real boon in our everchanging national climate.

Early arrivals and late departures
Our usual arrival time is 4pm onwards but if there are no guests departing that morning, a 2pm arrival time may be possible. Please ask if you would like to book this.
Our usual departure time is 10am but if no guests are arriving later that day, a 12 noon departure time may be possible. Please ask if you would like to book this.

We pride ourselves on being very pet friendly. Marisa has
more than 40 years experience of training dogs, she is the author of How To Train Your Dog, and this is the home of the
Aramisty Border Collies.

We do not charge extra for dogs and there is no limit to the number we welcome.

Please note that the Lodge is not suitable for dogs who bark continuously or very reactive dogs. Our dogs can be heard (on and off) playing on the dog field for around 45 minutes in the morning so guests usually bring their dogs inside the Lodge during this period if they are likely to bark in return.

To help us maintain good neighbourly relations, please curb excess barking. Dogs who are not destructive or vocal may be left for up to 4 hours in either the outside kennels/runs or in your own crates in the Lodge. The Lodge must be left fully ventilated for them in your absence. (It heats up quickly in the summer so this must be considered when leaving your dogs.) Dogs must not be left loose in the Lodge at any time. Any damage (eg chewing, digging, broken equipment/items etc) or failure to clean up after your dog will be deducted from the breakages deposit.

Please bring your own throws/blankets for use on the sofa/beds. Cleaning materials, Dyson hoover, baby-gate etc are all provided. Guests are asked to leave the Lodge in the clean and tidy condition in which they found it. We reserve the right to make an additional charge for cleaning should the property not be left in a similar condition to the way it was found at the start of the holiday.

The third of an acre fully fenced garden (6 foot panel/close board fencing) is ideal for pets. There is plenty of room to roam and run around. You also have your own outside tap for rinsing off wet/sandy dogs and filling water containers for the day ahead plus a hard shell paddling pool. The large waterproof storage box on the decking is an ideal place to keep wellies, waterproofs, leads, toys etc. A half size chest freezer is provided, handy for those who like to feed raw.

A public footpath behind the lodge leads onto open fields (including lakes and the River Wear) where you can walk for miles. In addition, there are various local parks/green spaces for exercising your dogs. Hamsterley Forest is also only 15 minutes away. The Forest has 2,000 hectares and a very nice teashop which is famous for its cakes!
